Washington D.C. Continues its Leadership in the Quest for Smart Cities with Another Limelight Installation

Friday, October 13, 2017

Limelight,  the industry leading IoT lighting control system, was installed into twenty-six Washington D.C. parking garages in 2015. In 2017, Limelight will be deployed at another prestigious location in our nation’s capital, the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building. Limelight has been providing the Washington D.C. area with many benefits that Thurgood Marshall will now receive including, energy savings, reduction in total cost of ownership, enhanced parking garage safety, and optimization of lighting asset management.

Since its deployment two years ago, Limelight has saved WMATA 58% in energy and has increased the LED luminaire’s life from an average of 10 years to 15 years. The energy cost savings secured financing for the enhanced parking garage lighting over a ten-year Lighting as A Service (LAAS) contract. This contract covers the design, installation, operations and maintenance of the parking garage LED lighting and Limelight system. In addition to energy savings, maintenance costs are also largely reduced. With regards to WMATA, Limelight cut their overall maintenance costs in half.

Limelight provides parking intelligence through its IoT system by delivering the data that benefits the entire parking and facilities team. The real-time parking data, occupancy rates, usage patterns, mobile web access, energy savings emails, and event schedule features provide substantial improvements to asset management. With Limelight, Thurgood Marshall and WMATA can monitor, report, and forecast their assets to improve overall operational performance.
